Pan Dulce Workshop Series II: The Bake Lab X Chef Alex Peña – Pan de Muerto Masterclass
TIME
September 12 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Whether you’re a beginner or a professional baker, our Pan de Muerto Masterclass will elevate your pan dulce skills!
Pan de Muerto, or “bread of the dead,” is a brioche-style sweet bread infused with citrus, made each year as a deeply symbolic offering during Día de los Muertos. More than a baked good, it is believed to guide the spirits of loved ones back to the world of the living. In this hands-on class, Chef Alex walks you through the full process, from creating a yeast-raised dough to shaping the iconic tumba(tomb)style that honors those who have passed. You will learn to craft both traditional larger tumbas as well as smaller versions that will be filled with dulce de leche, offering a delicious twist on this beloved bread. While your dough ferments, you’ll also learn to make polvorón de naranja, a classic, orange-flavored butter cookie that pairs perfectly with the citrus notes throughout the class. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced baker, you’ll leave with two beloved recipes mastered, a deeper connection to a cherished tradition, and sweet treats to share
